An amusing counterpoint is served up by conservative 8-year-old daughter Diversity (yes, this is a girl's name, at least in this leftist neighborhood). Quick-witted and sarcastic, she seems never at a loss to undercut the ongoing madness with a priceless remark. Diversity Lane/ A Liberal Family Saga is clever and exceedingly well-drawn by a seasoned commercial art professional. For those who enjoy laughter mixed with their thinking it could be the gift book of the year.
Key to the joys of this big collection is the characters. These cartoon-people feel real, and countless readers have reported seeing in them some wayward acquaintance, challenging family member or long-forgotten college classmate. There's Alex, the ACLU lawyer with a heart of gold if you're a criminal but darkest mistrust of the rest of us... politically correct wife Allison, juggling her PC jargon as adeptly as a performer at Ringling Brothers... Devon, the brooding uber-feminist, a bundle of neuroses wrapped up in basic black... Sierra, the 48-year-old hippie who boarded the New Age bandwagon in the '60s and never got off... and little Jayson, the hapless 6-year-old will he adopt the galloping insanity of the Lane household, or follow sister Diversity's path to normalcy? Though spirited in its comic dissection of the left's foibles, the series manages to garner many liberal readers simply by virtue of the comedic realism of its personalities.
Still, this is a series with sober underpinnings. It's obvious that a great deal of thought has gone into the creation of its left/right dialog, and it comes as no surprise that Rawsthorne's cartoons have been endorsed by and featured frequently at the top conservative website American Thinker. Nor that it has appeared at Powerline, Moonbattery, I Own The World and many other renowned sites over the two years since making its internet debut.
In summation, this is a witty treasure of a book for readers and humor aficionados of every stripe. Like snapshots from a sitcom just a little too uncomfortably honest to be produced, it will alternately thrill, disturb, and delight. The right will welcome joyously its no-holds-barred puncturing of liberals' most cherished beliefs; open-minded progressives up for a challenge will find it combative but thought-provoking; and non-political types will simply laugh out loud at the ever-imaginative and visually striking goings on around Diversity Lane.

It's so unusual to find a book that pokes fun at the left and is FUNNY.
The little girl's parents named her... Diversity!
And the cartoons are peppered with ennui and slogans. My favorite "If you can't live up to high standards, maybe there SHOULDN'T BE ANY."
Nice size book -- hope there are more books to come.
Zack Rawsthorne's Diversity Lane has a blend of satirical wisdom salted with the wit of Ben Franklin & Mark Twain, aimed directly at the vacuous idiocy of the secular-left.
Zack's book will be thoroughly enjoyed by your conservative friends... maybe stolen is you do not keep an eye on it!
Just as the liberals often ponder about who can be their proverbial Rush Limbaugh... eventually, they will be looking for their own Zack Rawsthorne.
Although Zack's Diversity Lane is just 3 years old, the nasty vitriol launched against him at his blog is indicative of how very, very effective he is at showing how twisted and reprobate the secular left really is.

Zack sent me one of these to review. I can honestly say that I loved it. Even my Democratic Party voting Mom loved some of it!
I used to post Zack's cartoons on my blog. Sadly, Zack's "Day job" has kept him busy and he has not been able to post new cartoons as of late. Actually, I believe someone threatened to out him and that is why he stopped. I cannot prove that at all though.
I do highly recommend the book!

Zack Rawsthorne's online comic "Diversity Lane" is a national treasure (well, at least among conservatives and perhaps among liberals who have a good sense of humor)...and now it's not only collected in handsome book form, but Mr. Rawsthorne has included new cartoons and extra goodies!
The illustrations are beautifully drawn and have painterly gray tones which remind me of the classic cartoons of Charles Addams. And though it may be old school craftsmanship of a type we too rarely see anymore, the writing is definitely timely and up to date. Rawsthorne skewers Liberal pretensions and puts current events under his powerful microscope, all while remembering that his first and most important job is to entertain and keep the laughs coming. And that he does!
I really enjoy cartoon books, and already have a lot that I return to again and again Calvin & Hobbes, Dilbert, The Far Side, Pearls Before Swine, Sherman's Lagoon, collections by Charles Adams, Gahan Wilson, Virgil Partch and more. I'm delighted to add "Diversity Lane" to that shelf...and will hope that Mr. Rawsthorne sends additional books our way on a regular basis!
Zack's Rawsthorne's Diversity Lane is now 3 years old and excoriated regularly at his blog. What does that suggest? It is working. Infurite them and you've won.
Rawsthorne's Diversity Lane combines satire and wit that skewers the bien penssants and self-satisfied liberals who bloviate into the kultursmog. He keeps you in stitches page after page. I was constantly thinking "oh I must send that to...[insert liberal friend here]." This work has compressed answers that defeat every 800-word liberal editorial ever written. Real in a way that only humans are real, not the perfectible ants of the Marxists boinkheads.
This book is well-bound, with a few extras from Rawsthorne. His illustration is masterful drawings with just the appropriate amount of detail to convey setting but not distract. Like another reviewer, his use of gray tones instantly reminded me of Charles Addams superb. This is a book to treasure, the first of hopefully many more.
Buy this book and encourage Zack to come back!
